The Second Amendment
Why it is Important for Our Freedom

Our Founding father’s knew the importance of the people being armed. It was not about duck hunting. They were aware that any government would become corrupt over time. Power has a tendency to incubate tyranny. It is evident today as we witness the federal government’s strangle hold on public education and the un-funded   mandates it imposes on local school districts. The slow, steady strangulation of the government over the citizens is every where. If you open your eyes you can see it.. The federal government is closing off areas of public land and creating criminals out of what are today law abiding citizens. Under the guise of trying to prevent tragedy, our rights are being steadily chipped away by applying more and more control over the people. This is not freedom!

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops” - Noah Webster

Everyone admits that the recent school shootings are a painful tragedies that our society must bear. Putting the blame on guns is a dysfunctional reaction to the problem. Guns have always been a part of the American culture and until recently have been thrust into the spotlight. Perhaps we are afraid to tackle the real problems of society because it is easier to blame an inanimate object and we can pat ourselves on the back and pretend we have done something. With every new law that we pass, we tear away at someone’s rights. If they choose to retain their right, they are put into a criminal class for something that was perfectly legal the day before.

“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.” — Ayn Rand (Atlas Shrugged)

What is your life worth? The lives of your loved ones? Is the value of life measured in dollars or celebrity?

Hand Gun Control and others seem to think that some lives are more valuable than others. The outlawing of inexpensive Saturday Night specials should have sent a message to poor people that their lives were less valuable than a rich person, who can afford a gun to protect himself.

“As much as I oppose the average person’s having a gun, I recognize that some people have a legitimate need to own one. A wealthy corporate executive who fears his family might get kidnapped is one such person. A Hollywood celebrity who has to protect himself from kooks is another. If Sharon Tate had had access to a gun during the Manson killings, some innocent lives might have been saved.” — Joseph D. McNamara (San Jose, CA ex-Police Chief, and HCI spokesman), Safe and Sane (book) ,1984, p. 71-72.

Stand up for your rights, before you are disarmed and unable to defend yourself.

“To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike especially when young, how to use them.” —Richard Henry Lee, 1788, Initiator of the Declaration of Independence
